A Way Out – Escaping prison in style!

A Way Out – Escaping prison in style!

Introduction

A Way Out is an action-adventure game developed by Hazelight Studios and published by EA.

The game was released for Microsoft Windows, Playstation 4 and Xbox One on March 23, 2018 selling over a million copies in just 2 weeks.

It is not a single-player game and is only playable on local or online split screen co-op between 2 players.

You do not have to buy 2 copies of the game to play with your friend. Either one of you have to own a single copy and the other just needs to download the Free Trial via Origin for PC. The player who then owns the game can invite the other via Origin to play together in a private match.

It is basically a story between 2 prisoners: Leo and Vincent who are dealing with their own shit in their personal lives, trying to escape prison to confront and take revenge against the man with power who ruined both their lives.

Objective

A Way out characters

The main objective of the game is to play in sync with your partner in crime and strategize different methods to try and complete various missions as and when they are thrown to you as you progress the game. Some can be tricky and challenging, so you need to make sure your teamwork is A class.

Gameplay

Well, what can I say? I loved every bit of the game right from the start till the end, in terms of story and gameplay. It was so unique in today’s day and age when you have almost the same type of games over and over again.

I played this game with my girlfriend and this was her first Co-op game. She’s not a gamer and rarely plays puzzle games like Sherlock or The Room, etc. so something like this was very new to her.

I was a little skeptical if she’d get through it with ease but to my surprise, this game is honestly very beginner-friendly and we breezed through it within 2 days (Around 7-8 hours of gameplay).

You get to pick from the 2 characters, either Leo or Vincent and they both have their own personalities which makes you have to choose between 2 different options throughout the game.

You and your buddy can make your own choices which changes the game and accordingly takes a different path. This has got to be a very fun and unique way of playing as we usually mostly see this only in single-player games, but here you have to decide with your partner and then go ahead with a single choice (Get ready to fight :p)

There are ton of side activities to do in prison or outside in general where you can goof around with your buddy or others apart from the main objectives and missions.

The ending of the game has got to be the most mind-boggling and emotional scene which I definitely do not want to spoil, but you and your friend are going to be in a soup.

Performance/Graphics

A Way Out

I played this game on the PC via Steam and Origin with around Medium to High Settings.

It was totally playable for most parts of the game with around 40-60 FPS except a few parts where the game got very choppy to around 20 FPS and I had to drop down the settings a lot.

I own an Asus TUF FX505DY Gaming Laptop. The specs include an AMD Ryzen 5 chipset, an AMD RX560x GPU with 4GB of ram, 16GB DDR4 of ram memory and a 500GB Samsung Evo NVME M.2 SSD.

Target Group

I would recommend this game to anyone who:

  • Is a newbie and wants to experience something unique from the rest of the games.

  • Wants to try out a co-op game that is story rich and has choices that affect the game.

  • Wants to invite a friend over and have a good time together in a very casual and chilled way.

Final Verdict

5/5
5/5

I loved every bit of this game and would definitely give it a 5/5 as I had a blast with my girlfriend.

The story was brilliant, the environment was great, the choices were amazing and the gameplay was beautiful and very beginner friendly!

This game goes up on Sale during the usual big events on Steam, so you could wait and pick it up then, but it’s definitely worth the total price as well, since you just need to own 1 copy of the game where 2 people can enjoy it and have a great time together.

Cheers and happy gaming until next time! 😊
