The World of Figment

The World of Figment

In Figment, players take control of Dusty, the game’s protagonist, who represents the conscious mind. Alongside his companion, Piper, who represents the creative mind, players embark on a journey through the different regions of the mind, each one with its own set of challenges and puzzles to solve. From the Tree of Wisdom to the Land of Fear, players will encounter a range of surreal and visually striking environments that reflect the different aspects of the human mind.

Confronting the Nightmares

Confronting the Nightmares

As players progress through the game, they’ll encounter the three nightmares of doubt, fear, and pain, each one representing a different psychological fear or trauma. These nightmares serve as the game’s primary antagonists, and players must confront and overcome them to progress through the story. Defeating each nightmare requires a combination of puzzle-solving and combat skills, making Figment a challenging and rewarding gaming experience.

A Satisfying Conclusion

A Satisfying Conclusion Figment

At the end of the game, players will confront the final boss, a manifestation of the mind’s negative thoughts and emotions. Once defeated, the mind is restored to a state of balance and harmony, and the game’s story reaches its conclusion. The end cinematic shows Dusty and Piper running towards the conscious mind wherein we hear the sound of a heart monitor, which seems like the hospital, post which we hear the voice of a man waking up, and his daughter informing the mother. The mother then says “Thank God he’s waking up”. I am guessing the man landed in the hospital after his fall from the fear of a spider which is what we encounter in the game, but that’s just my guess.

Suitable for All Ages

When I first started playing the game it looked like a kids game but then after some research I was able to find out that Figment is rated E which means it is for Everyone. However, the game’s challenging puzzles and combat mechanics may be more suitable for players aged 10 and up. The game’s surreal and sometimes dark themes, such as confronting psychological fears and traumas, may also be more appropriate for older players. Ultimately, the age group that plays Figment will depend on individual preferences and gaming experience.
